AMP publishes 2024 Sustainability Report

Ardagh Metal Packaging (AMP), a global supplier of sustainable metal beverage cans, today published its 2024 Sustainability Report, reaffirming its commitment to environmental stewardship, social impact, and transparent governance. Although the European Union’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the related European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) are not currently in force with respect to AMP, we have nevertheless developed the 2024 Sustainability Report with the goal of integrating the current CSRD and ESRS structure, to the extent practicable, reflecting AMP’s dedication to enhanced ESG disclosure and responsible business practices.

Despite a 3% increase in sales volume growth, AMP made measurable strides across all core sustainability pillars—Emissions, Ecology and Social—demonstrating that growth and sustainability can go hand-in-hand.

Key 2024 Environmental Highlights:

  • Renewable Electricity: Increased global renewable electricity coverage to 30%, with strong regional progress (Europe: 46%, South America: 43%).
  • GHG Emissions:
    • Scope 1 & 2: 10% emissions reduction versus 2023; 18% emissions intensity reduction versus 2020 baseline.
    • Scope 3: Achieved a 25% reduction from 2020 baseline, surpassing the 2030 target.
  • Circularity: AMP’s beverage cans are made with an average recycled content of 78% recycled aluminium, among the highest in the industry, based on peer disclosures.
  • Waste and Water: 83% of facilities achieved Zero Waste to Landfill; water withdrawal intensity improved 5% over the previous year.

Social and Governance Progress:

  • Ardagh for Education: Invested $5 million in STEM education across 20 communities, reaching over 75,000 students.
  • Recognised with an EcoVadis Gold Medal for sustainability management and listed on the CDP A List for supplier engagement.
  • Launched the Ardagh Metal Production System (AMPS) to drive global operational efficiency and sustainability integration.

“Our 2024 report reflects our continued investment in people, planet and performance,” said Oliver Graham, CEO of AMP. “We’re proud of the progress we’ve made across all core pillars—Emissions, Ecology and Social—and remain committed to leading the transition to more sustainable packaging solutions. Our commitment to ecosystems and communities remains as strong as ever. We aim to meet the demand for packaging that is easy to recycle and reduce our environmental impact. We will also create more opportunities for the communities we serve and from which we recruit. Together, we will endeavour to fulfil aluminium’s role in a more sustainable economy, where circularity is not an aspiration but a reality.”

The report also serves as a supplement to AMP’s 2025 Communication on Progress (COP) to the UN Global Compact and reinforces the company’s long-term ESG roadmap.
